So a few people have heard about my embarking on a 6 week "Bootcamp" in conjunction with a gym in Orem called
EXL Fitness. My older sister called me a few weeks ago to ask me if I would be interested in joining her and a team of three other women in participating in a 6 week body %-fat loss competition. I was interested in learning more about it, and after researching a bit I decided in the affirmative!
I am now 1 week in, and can say that I am feeling great!! We had an initial first weigh-in last week, in which they took all of our measurements and educated us on the rules, and principles of nutrition to incorporate in order to heed the maximum results. I felt the meeting feeling a little overwhelmed, but at the same time extremely motivated.

| about to run the St. George 1/2 |
I train in an intense hour long strength workout 3X/week. You rotate through a series of stations, and usually there are 2-3 different lifts and cardio workouts that you go back and forth between at each station. I can say that I have always been in shape, I go to the gym, I run 1/2 marathons, I play sports etc... But I have NEVER felt
so out of shape in my life as when I have been doing these work outs this week!!
I LOVE IT. I am lucky to have my older sister who is incredibly discipled be in it with me. The workouts are so hard. I have been sore after each one, but I can already feel my stomach getting tighter, and my love-handles melting away. The workouts are designed to be "fat-blasting." In order to maximize results, I'm trying to go to the gym after each session to finish it off with either just a traditional cardio workout, or an interval/metabolic training workout.

In order to completely embrace this body transformation, I have also decided to implement the suggested principles of nutrition. Again, I have always been a health-conscious person, and have never been over weight, but WHY NOT look and feel the best I possibly can?!! There will always be excuses to not take care of our bodies, but there will be NONE for me this year. I think the reason I am already feeling the effects of this is because every time I go to a workout, I WANT TO DIE it is so hard. As my boss always says to me (former member of the US marine corp) " What is pain?! Weakness leaving the body."
Here are some of the main nutritional changes I personally =making:
1. No refined sugar
2. Protein at every meal (I haven't always eaten much protein, so I'm being more conscious of this AND supplementing as well...)
3. Drinking more water
4. "Proactive" nutrition rather than "reactive" nutrition (writing down what I will eat
before I eat it
5. Eating whole foods as much as possible
6. 1/2-1 serving of fruit/day (again, trying to limit sugar, in order to increase fat-loss)
7. Eat veggies at every meal
8. Only eat appropriate carbs after workouts
9. Eat smaller portions (4-5 times/day or every 3-4 hours)
10. Absolutely NO hydrogenated anything.

| Me and my sister after a 1/2 marathon we did last year. I feel that I owe it to her that I P.R.ed at this race. She pushed me harder than I could push myself. She wouldn't even let me stop to pee! Yeah...I did. BUT, I finished at 1 hour and 37 minutes :) Don't hate, why don't you go run 13 miles each under 8 minutes! |
In one week I've lost 2 pounds and I can see that I am leaner than I was 2 weeks ago! One week down, five to go. I'm really excited how motivated I am by doing this extremely demanding competition!
